Baker Racing Engine History

It all started in 1959 when I was 6 years old. My father gave me a small 4 cycle gas engine and mounted it to a board and said have fun. Every day after school I would wind the motor up as high as possible. After a few weeks of this it decided to throw its rod outside the block. Then the real work began and the rest is history.

When I was 7 years old I started racing go karts in a Dart Kart by Rupp. My love for motor sports continued and when I was 16 years old I started drag racing for another 10 years. During this time I continued to build automobile race motors.

In 1978 I received a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering and started my professional career with General Motors as a Research Engineer until I retired in March of 2008. In 1993 my son Jon, started racing go karts and it was then that I started building 4 cycle kart engines.

Building kart engines continued as a part time business until March of 2008 when it was established a full time business.
