The introduction of the Honda engine into QM racing was at the 1988 QMA Western Grands in Pueblo, Colorado. Over the past 31 years, the racers have enjoyed the performance and reliability of the Honda engine platform. However, at the same time as we have enjoyed this engine, it has also created problems and additional expenses for the quarter midget racing community. The Honda engine platform is a worldwide design for commercial use and is controlled by EPA. Because of these strict government EPA regulations the engine design and performance parameters are changing every 3 to 5 years. We have seen this in both the 120 and 160 engine platforms over the years. So again we, the organization, racers and engine builders find us in a position to make the required adjustments for this new Honda 120UT3 engine design useable for QM racing. The directive from USAC is to make the required modifications to this engine so its performance will shadow the current Honda 120 UT2 engine. Based on some of the engine internal design modifications from Honda, increased crankshaft stroke, cylinder head with increased intake airflow and more efficient combustion chamber design this has created a very challenging task and additional time for this engine's performance to shadow the UT2 engine. Many hours of technical discussions, track and dyno testing has taken place and still is today on this new engine program. The plan earlier this year from USAC was to introduce this engine for the 2020 racing season. At this point, I do not know the exact date of its introduction into racing. But probably the USAC Daytona race. So with that being said, we at BRE want to thank everyone for their patience on this program.

Thank you
Steve

Just a word of caution for the racers with Briggs Animal and World Formula engines. As seen in the attached picture is the correct orientation of the carburetor slide V-clip. The purpose of the V clip is to apply pressure to the needle C-clip and hold in position. We are seeing more racers lose this V-clip while inserting or removing the throttle cable from slide. Just a word of caution that when replacing the throttle cable so the V-Clip does not fall out of slide. The adverse effects of the V-Clip positioned incorrectly or missing is the throttle needle will dance up and down and cause a very rich fuel air condition.
In addition, take note that in the World Formula application the V-Clip must set down in a shallow recessed area. The Animal is just positioned at the bottom of the slide bore location.
This tech update applies to all Animal and World Formula applications. Quarter Midgets, Karts, Jr Dragsters, Snow Mobiles, Swamp Boats, etc ...

Baker Racing Engines would like to thank all the racing families for their continued support and friendship over the 2021 racing season. We look forward to the 2022 racing season and many more years to follow. Below is the BRE racing schedule for this season. We also will be attending as many club races as possible. We will have our shop support trailer at these events to support everyone who needs help with simple tasks like changing valve springs or ultrasonic cleaning carburetors or even more difficult tasks of replacing damaged crankshafts/pistons if needed. We will also have on hand a full weather station for the more serious racer who would like to make carburetor fuel/air jet adjustments based on air quality as we travel around the country at various tracks. We will have in stock all the engine related parts as needed for repairs.

After a lot of hard work, BRE is proud to announce the launch of its new website. The new site offers a complete store with a growing line of parts. The new site was designed to provide more resources for BRE customers by offering tech information, news updates, and a store to purchase needed parts.

We at Baker racing engines hope our customers enjoy the new site and all it has to offer.

USAC updated a few of its rules this week.

Animal Tech Update

February 13, 2017

There had been an update that I thought we sent out, but did not. These updates are in the tech manuals which are now available on our website, http://www.usac25.com.

Please look at the #USAC25 TECH manuals. Any tolerance changes from 2016 - will be highlighted in yellow.

The Honda 120 Tech Manual is not updated at this time but will be soon.
